
T.Ryan Pflugner, M.D., specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy, including open and arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle disorders. Dr. Pflugner is keenly interested in pediatric sports injuries, with a particular emphasis on ACL injuries of the knee and throwing injuries of the shoulder and elbow.
Dr. Pflugner attended the University of Alabama where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology, with a minor in business. While at the University of Alabama, Dr. Pflugner earned a position as the place kicker for the football team, and was elected team captain for the 1999 SEC Championship team. He also served as President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, through which he enjoyed speaking to and encouraging young people at local schools and churches.
Dr. Pflugner earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at UAB Hospital. Subsequent to his residency, he successfully completed an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship under the tutelage of James H. Lubowitz, M.D., at Taos Orthopedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico.
Dr. Pflugner and his wife, Kristin, have recently moved to Trussville, Alabama, where they are looking forward to getting involved in the community. Dr. Pflugner and his wife enjoy fishing, traveling, and volunteering for medical mission trips around the world.
